What Content Can be Re-Published
Writing a medical publication? Be sure that you follow the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) Guidance [http://www.icmje.org/], the gold-standard.
In May 2022 the ICMJE guidance (Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals) was updated.
One of the issues ICMJE addresses is how to handle content that has been previously published. While it is generally acceptable to submit content that has been previously published at a conference (abstract, poster, or oral presentation), any attempt to re-submit a large previously published report or dataset should be avoided or at least accompanied with copies of that previous manuscript or related materials. In the most recent update, ICMJE makes it clear that reports published by assessment agencies, medical regulators, medical device regulators, or other regulatory agencies do not constitute a duplicate or prior publication. Also, if you previously reported a preliminary assessment, its OK to publish final updated content.
